If you haven’t read the previous blog post introducing the four possible future worlds, here’s a brief summary: based on current trends in beauty and how we use social platforms, we predicted how beauty would be perceived in 2030 using the 2x2 matrix method of scenario building.

“The development of full artificial intelligence could spell the end of the human race” — advanced, highly intelligent robots are what comes to our mind when we hear this quote by Stephen Hawking. Of course, only time will tell if he was right or wrong, but as someone who has been analyzing technological advancements for quite some time, I see this quote in a different light — it doesn’t have to be human-like armored robots to take over the human race; it can be something as simple as a smartphone app.

As mentioned in the first article in this series, apps like Facetune and social platforms like Instagram and Snapchat have been disturbing our natural perception of beauty for some time now. The human-made AI algorithms learn from our data on the internet and constantly improvise to manipulate our online behavior and actions. What’s alarming is that the trends set by these algorithms are invading the physical world as well, in the form of stickers, emojis, and printed t-shirts.
